Basic
Laptop Usage
South Hall 1415 has five new Dell laptops for your classroom usage.
This could include sharing work collaboratively among students, displaying
student work on the projector, or making a remote chat accessible to
all of the students in your class or section. These laptops are stored
in the locked cabinet to your left as you enter SH 1415.
Once you have gotten the laptops from the cabinet as well as the network
cables, make sure that you connect the laptops to the network by connecting
to a port with a white dot next to it. When the network cables are connected,
turn on the laptop by pressing the button in the middle of the console
above the keyboard. The laptop will boot up and will eventually instruct
you to press CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on. When you do so, the computer will
want a username and password. These will be on a sticker on the laptop.
Enter the username and password and the computer will finish up logging
in.

Now you are ready to use the laptops. They will automatically be ready
for Internet usage. However, if you are interested in sharing work or
remote chat, you will need to work with Windows Messenger/Microsoft
NetMeeting, which is discussed in the documentation for Starting NetMeeting
After you have finished using the laptops, shut them down, detach the
network cables (this may be a little difficult. Be patient.) and return
the laptops and the cables to the cupboard, making sure to re-plug the
laptops back into their chargers so that the next user does not find
a laptop with no battery power.
