Coco Chanel and Fashion: Timeline

Go to the full timeline database)

While Coco Chanel is primarily remembered as an innovator of fashion, the profound influence Coco Chanel possessed throughout this century far surpasses the boundaries of fashion. Not only were Chanel's fashions ahead of her time, so were her ideas regarding women's rights. While perhaps not an outright feminist, Chanel's influence undoubtedly strengthened the liberation of women. With her unique ability to combine elements of strength, femininity, and confidence in her styles, Chanel challenged both the status quo for fashion and for women's roles in society. Chanel's fashions not only changed the way women looked on the outside, but they also changed the way women looked at themselves. The following is a timeline highlighting the significant events of Coco Chanel's life and the times in which she lived.
