About the Instructor
Alan Liu is director of the Transcriptions Project and Professor in the English Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he has taught since 1988. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1980 and taught in the English Department and British Studies Program at Yale University from 1979-87. His central interests include literary theory, cultural studies, information culture, and British Romantic literature. Currently he is continuing his work on a project titled The Future Literary: Literary History and the Culture of Information--the first half of which is being completed under the title, The Laws of Cool: The Cultural Life of Information. His major web projects include: The Voice of the Shuttle: Web Page for Humanities Research and Palinurus: The Academy and the Corporation--Teaching the Humanities in a Restructured World.
